New York State Police at Sidney arrested two men who were in the process of burglarizing a residence in the town of Guilford. Connor J. Audette, age 20 of Guilford, NY was arrested for the felony of Burglary in the third degree. Joseph B. Schneider, age 25 of Oxford, NY was also arrested for the felony of Burglary in the third degree and the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.
While attempting to locate another (uninvolved) individual with an outstanding warrant on January 28, 2020, Troopers and Investigators spotted Audette and Schneider hiding in a field off of County Road 36 in the town of Guilford. Troopers found this suspicious and attempted to make contact with the two men. Troopers ultimately discovered that the duo was in the processes of burglarizing a residence on County Road 36 where the owner had died. Audette was detained by troopers but Schneider attempted to flee the scene and was ultimately taken into custody with the assistance of a New York State Police K9.
Audette was arraigned in the town of Bainbridge court on January 28, where he was released on his own recognizance and was scheduled to appear in the town of Guilford court on February 11, 2020. Schneider was transported to Norwich City Police where he was wanted on two warrants. Schneider was later processed by State Police Investigators on January 29 and arraigned in the town of Guilford court and was set to reappear on February 11, 2020.
