PRESS RELEASE
 

Marilyn F. Deleon-Mutal, 19, of Lynn, MA, was operating a 2015 GMC Yukon, westbound, while attempting to overtake an uninvolved tractor trailer, made an abrupt over correction and veered onto the median.  The Yukon then re-entered the westbound lanes and rolled multiple times.  Deleon-Mutal received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Geneva General Hospital.

Rear passengers, Anibal Deleon, 49, and Jubelina Mutal, 48, both of Lynn, MA, were ejected from the vehicle.  Deleon received serious injuries and is currently listed in guarded condition.  Mutal received life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.  Both were airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.  Neither passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. 

Remaining passengers, Elgin V. Gomez, 27, Maritza Deleon, 24, and Jose Merida, 17, all of Lynn, MA, received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital and Geneva General Hospital.  There was a 1-year-old child in the vehicle who was uninjured. 

The westbound lanes remained closed for approximately 3 hours while State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) completed the investigation.

Phelps, NY – State Police are currently investigating a one car personal injury rollover accident which occurred at approximately 12:56 p.m. on I-90 westbound at mile marker 326.9 in the town of Phelps, between exit 41 (Waterloo) and exit 42 (Geneva). 
 
The vehicle was occupied by several people.  Two individuals were ejected and airlifted from the Geneva exit to local hospitals.  Reported injuries range from minor to life-threatening. 
 
All westbound lanes are currently blocked.  Traffic is passing by on the right shoulder while accident reconstruction is being completed.
