On September 8, 2020, State Police in Sylvan Beach responded to Pine Haven Trailer Park in the outer district of the City of Rome for a report of an armed robbery. 

The juvenile victim reported that he placed an ad on Snapchat in regards to selling his Fortnite online account.  A subject agreed to meet the victim at the playground in the trailer park to exchange the money for the account.  Around 1:30 am, the victim was approached by a subject who was armed with a handgun and demanded all the victim’s possessions.  The victim handed over an iPhone and the suspect fled the scene. 

At 3:30 a.m., the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department responded to the second report of an armed robbery that occurred in the Town of Lee involving juvenile victims and the theft of a cell phone.  It was also reported that a similar incident occurred on September 5, 2020, in the inner district of the City of Rome.  

State Police, Oneida County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Rome Police Department worked in conjunction and identified a suspect.

On September 8, 2020, a 14-year-old male juvenile, was taken into custody in the City of Rome and transported to the City of Rome Police Department.  The juvenile implicated himself in several robberies and an assault in the City of Rome jurisdiction.  The juvenile was charged with (3) counts of Robbery 1st degree – Firearm displayed (class “B” felony).  The juvenile was arraigned via virtual arraignment and remanded to a juvenile detention facility in Erie County.
