PRESS RELEASE

In the month of January, members from Troop C took thirty people off the roads and charged them with driving under the influence. 

On January 1, 2020 at approximately 1:38 a.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Tariq M. Johnson, age 20 of Johnson City, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers observed Johnson drive through the DWI Road check on George F. Highway (State Route 17C) in the town of Union.  While interviewing Johnson, troopers observed common characteristics associated with impairment.  After an investigation, he was arrested.  Johnson’s reportable B.A.C was .15%.  He was processed and issued appearance tickets to the town of Union court on January 21, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 1, 2020 at approximately 3:55 a.m., New York State Police at Sidney arrested Matthew P. Palmeri, age 36 of Bainbridge, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers on patrol observed Palmeri on State Route 8 unable to maintain a lane and initiated a traffic stop.  Troopers observed that Palmeri appeared intoxicated.  After an investigation, he was arrested.  Palmeri’s reportable B.A.C was .17%.  He was processed then released on appearance tickets to the town of Bainbridge court on January 16, 2020. 

On January 1, 2020 at approximately 3:12 a.m., New York State Police at Richfield Springs arrested Kevin A. Rundle, age 54 of West Winfield, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers initiated a traffic stop after they observed a vehicle and traffic violation near the intersection of US Highway 20 and State Route 8 in the town of Bridgewater.  As troopers interviewed Rundle, they detected that he was intoxicated.  An investigation revealed that Rundle was impaired and he was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was .16%.  Rundle was processed then released on appearance tickets to the town of Bridgewater court on January 27, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 1, 2020 at approximately 3:38 p.m., New York State Police at Norwich arrested Christine G. Whaley, age 63 of Norwich, NY for the misdemeanor of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, with a reportable B.A.C of .21%.  A trooper was dispatched to a report of a possible drunk driver at the drive thru of Taco Bell on State Highway in Norwich.  When troopers arrived, the driver and vehicle were gone but they soon located it in the Mirabito parking lot.  Whaley was sitting in the driver’s seat.  As a trooper interviewed Whaley, he was able to observe that she was impaired.  Whaley was arrested and subsequently issued appearance tickets to the town of Norwich court on January 16, 2020. 

On January 2, 2020 at approximately 10:03 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Christopher C. Baker, age 30 of Cincinnatus, NY for the misdemeanor of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and his car went off the road on Telephone Road in the town of Cincinnatus.  A trooper located Baker’s vehicle off the roadway but no one around it.  After an investigation, troopers located Baker at an address on Doran Hill Road and he was arrested.  Baker’s reportable B.A.C was .19%.  Baker was issued appearance tickets to the town of Cincinnatus court for February 5, 2020. 

On January 2, 2020 at approximately 11:10 p.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Shavon D. Whiteside, age 41 of Endicott, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper initiated a traffic stop after he observed Whiteside make vehicle and traffic violations while on Main Street in the village of Endicott.  The trooper observed characteristics commonly associated with alcohol impairment.  After an investigation, Whiteside was arrested; her reportable B.A.C was .16%.  Whiteside was released on appearance tickets to the village of Endicott court on January 22, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party.  

On January 4, 2020 at approximately 6:25 p.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Ryan M. McKinney, age 34 of Endicott, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper observing traffic on Watson Boulevard near Country Club Road in the town of Union saw McKinney make a vehicle and traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop.  As the trooper interviewed McKinney, he observed several common characteristics associated with impairment.  After an investigation, McKinney was arrested; his reportable B.A.C was .17%.  He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Union court on January 21, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 5, 2020 at approximately 6:26 a.m., New York State Police at Owego arrested Brian Nguyen, age 22 of Owego, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper was dispatched to a crash on State Route 17 west near exit 66.  No other vehicles were involved and Nguyen was uninjured.  After an investigation, he was arrested for DWI.  Nguyen’s reportable B.A.C was .08%.  He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Union court for January 14, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party.

On January 6, 2020 at approximately 5:31 p.m., New York State Police at Sidney arrested Emily A. Greenwood, age 22 of Afton, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper was dispatched by Chenango County 911 to a report of a vehicle in a ditch on County Route 30 in the town of Coventry.  As the trooper interviewed Greenwood, he observed common characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.   Greenwood was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which she subsequently failed.  Greenwood was arrested and provided a reportable B.A.C of .09%.  She was issued appearance tickets to the town of Coventry court on January 22, 2020. 

On January 6, 2020 at approximately 11:04 p.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Bawi Lin, age 29 of Ithaca, NY for the misdemeanor of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated.  A complainant contacted Tompkins County 911 advising of a vehicle failing to maintain its lane while on State Route 13 leaving the city of Ithaca.  The complainant was able to provide troopers with a description of the vehicle.  Troopers observed the vehicle and also saw the driver make several vehicle and traffic infractions when they initiated a traffic stop.  As the troopers interviewed Lin, they observed characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  After an investigation, Lin was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was .18%.  Lin was processed and released on appearance tickets to the town of Lansing court then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 8, 2020 at approximately 4:32 p.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Brandon J. Reynolds, age 41 of Johnson City, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired (Combined Drugs/Alcohol).  A Sergeant observed a vehicle almost strike another vehicle and jump a curb while near Harry L. Boulevard and Oakdale Road in the village of Johnson City then pull into a gas station on Watson Boulevard.  A trooper who arrived on scene, observed Reynolds in his vehicle at the gas pump, sitting in the driver’s seat but slumped over toward the passenger seat.  The trooper was able to get Reynold’s attention and began to interview him.  During his investigation, the trooper observed several common characteristics associated with impairment.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Reynolds was arrested.  He was processed and released on appearance tickets to the village of Johnson City court on January 15, 2020. 

On January 11, 2020 at approximately 6:15 p.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Gregory W. Slater, age 58 of Owego, NY for the felony of Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction in the last 10 years).  A trooper observed Slater make vehicle and traffic infractions while on State Route 17 in the village of Johnson City and initiated a traffic stop.  While the trooper interviewed Slater, he smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, he was arrested.  Slater was processed then transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.  

On January 11, 2020 at approximately 7:06 p.m., New York State Police at Binghamton arrested John L. Travis, age 51 of Port Crane, NY for the felony of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the first degree and the misdemeanors of Driving While Intoxicated and False Personation.  A trooper on Interstate 88 in the town of Fenton checked on a motorist who had pulled over to the shoulder of the road.   As the trooper spoke to Travis, he observed that Travis displayed several common characteristics associated with alcohol intoxication.  During his interview, the trooper learned that Travis originally gave him a fake name.  Travis was arrested.  Travis’s reportable B.A.C was .12% while at SP Binghamton.  He was issued appearance tickets to the town of Fenton court on January 30, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 12, 2020 at approximately 4:54 a.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Ravinder Singh, age 32 of Cortland, NY for the felonies of Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years) and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle.  Troopers on Interstate 81 were advised of a traffic complaint traveling from Broome County into Cortland County.  Troopers observed the described vehicle make several vehicle traffic infractions and initiated a traffic stop.  Troopers observed several common characteristics associated with alcohol impairment while they interviewed Singh.  After an investigation, Singh was arrested.  He was subsequently issued appearance tickets to the town of Cortlandville court for January 27, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 12, 2020 at approximately 11:52 p.m., New York State Police at Norwich arrested Jacob K. Strauss, age 32 of Oneonta, NY for the misdemeanor of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of .18%.  A trooper on State Highway 23 in the town of Norwich observed a vehicle with a vehicle and traffic infraction and initiated a traffic stop.  While interviewing Strauss, the trooper smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage and administered standardized field sobriety tests, which he subsequently failed.  Strauss was arrested and processed.  He was issued appearance tickets to the town of Norwich court on February 6, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 14, 2020 at approximately 8:23 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Paul F. Slowey, age 62 of Virgil, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers were dispatched by Cortland County 911 to a reported two vehicle crash on Clute Road in the town of Virgil.   An investigation revealed that while traveling on Clute Road, Slowey’s vehicle left its lane and struck another vehicle head-on.  The driver of the other vehicle and Slowey were taken to Upstate Medical University for further treatment.  Slowey was issued appearance tickets to the town of Virgil court on January 28, 2020.  

On January 14, 2020 at approximately 9:45 p.m., New York State Police at Richfield Springs arrested Stephen S. Maiorano, age 46 of Roseboom, NY for the felony of Driving While Intoxicated (with two previous convictions within 10 years).  Troopers were on State Highway 20 in the town of Warren when they observed a vehicle make vehicle and traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop.  As troopers interviewed they operator who was identified as Maiorano, they observed several common characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Maiorano was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was .14%.  Maiorano was processed and released on appearance tickets to the town of Warren court on February 18, 2020.

On January 15, 2020 at approximately 5:58 p.m., New York State Police at Norwich arrested Betty L. Brown, age 40 of DeRuyter, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers were dispatched to a report of an erratic driver in the Walmart parking lot.  Troopers located the described vehicle and an investigation revealed that another person drove to Walmart but when they went inside they left Brown with the keys in the ignition. The investigation further revealed that Brown then drove the vehicle erratically through the parking lot.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests she was arrested.  Her reportable B.A.C was .17%.  Brown was processed then released to a sober third party.  She was scheduled to appear in the town of Norwich court on February 6, 2020. 

On January 16, 2020 at approximately 11:06 p.m., New York State Police at Richfield Springs arrested Katlyn L. Beebe, age 30 of Burlington, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers were dispatched to a report of a property damage accident on State Highway 51 and Skaneateles Turnpike in the town of Plainfield.  Once on scene, troopers determined that Beebe went off the roadway and into a ditch.  As troopers interviewed Beebe they observed common characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  After an investigation, Beebe was arrested.  Her reportable B.A.C was .09%.  She was processed and released to a sober third party.  She was scheduled to appear on January 22, 2020 in the town of Plainfield court.

On January 22, 2020 at approximately 4:00 p.m., New York State Police at Owego arrested Richard M. Bedosky, age 54 of Binghamton, NY for the felony of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the first degree and the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers were dispatched by Tioga County 911 to a report of a two-car crash on State Route 434 near State Route 17.  An investigation revealed that Bedosky rear ended a vehicle that was stopped on State Route 434 at the Route 17 ramp.  As the trooper interviewed Bedosky, he observed common characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  After further investigation, Bedosky was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was .13%.  Bedosky was processed and issued appearance tickets to the town of Owego court on January 30, 2020.  then released to a sober third party.

On January 23, 2020 at approximately 11:30 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Jeanel N. Powell, age 31 of Binghamton, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper was dispatched by Cortland County 911 to a reported crash on Interstate 81 in the town of Virgil.  The trooper patrolled to I-81 southbound and located Powell and a passenger who were both unharmed.  The vehicle sustained damage when it struck a vehicle it was passing and then the snow covered median.  As the trooper interviewed Powell, he smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Powell was arrested.  Her reportable B.A.C was .14%.  She was processed then released on appearance tickets to the town of Virgil court on February 25, 2020. 

On January 24, 2020 at approximately 9:53 a.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Edgar Moss, age 71 of Ithaca, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper initiated a traffic stop after he observed a vehicle and traffic violation while on State Route 13 in the town of Ithaca.  While interviewing Moss, the trooper observed an odor of an alcoholic beverage.  After an investigation and failing standardized field sobriety tests, Moss was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was .15%.  Moss was processed and issued appearance tickets to the town of Ithaca court returnable on February 13, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 26, 2020 at approximately 1:19 a.m., New York State Police at Richfield Springs arrested Yuchin C. Chen, age 45 of Cooperstown, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated after her vehicle went into the ditch on County Road 28 in the town of Otsego.  When the trooper interviewed Chen about what happened, the trooper determined she displayed several common characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  After an investigation, she was arrested.  Chen’s reportable B.A.C was .08%.  She was processed and issued appearance tickets to the town of Otsego court on February 9, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party.

On January 26, 2020 at approximately 3:46 a.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Trevor H. Bean, age 45 of Owego, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper was dispatched by Broome County 911 to a report of a vehicle stuck in a ditch.  The trooper located Bean in his truck; which had gone off the road and was against a utility pole.  The trooper also observed that Bean appeared intoxicated.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Bean was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was .15%.  He was processed and released on appearance tickets to the town of Union court on February 11, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party.  

On January 25, 2020 at approximately 4:40 p.m., New York State Police at Deposit arrested Karen M. Wood, age 64 of Windsor, NY for the Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper was dispatched by Broome County 911 to a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on State Highway 17 near exit 80.  A New York State Police Sergeant in the area spotted a vehicle stopped near exit 79 and facing the wrong direction.  As troopers interviewed Wood, they smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage.  After an investigation, Wood was arrested.  She was processed and released on appearance tickets to the town of Windsor court on February 5, 2020. 

On January 25, 2020 at approximately 3:22 a.m., New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Lisa J. Liguori, age 54 of Whitney Point, NY for the misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers were dispatched by Broome County 911 to a report of a crash on State Route 11 in the town of Barker.  Troopers located Liguori in her vehicle after she struck a guiderail.  Troopers observed that she displayed common characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  She was transported to Wilson Hospital for a complaint of pain after the accident.  Liguori was issued appearance tickets to the town of Barker court on February 11, 2020.

On January 28, 2020 at approximately 5:30 p.m., New York State Police at Deposit arrested Stephen R. Casciola, age 25 of Hancock, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper patrolling State Route 17 in the town of Hancock observed a vehicle and traffic infraction and initiated a traffic stop.  While interviewing Casciola, the trooper observed that Casciola appeared impaired.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Casciola was arrested.  He was arraigned in the town of Deposit court and released on his own recognizance.  He was scheduled to appear in the town of Hancock court on February 10, 2020.

On January 30, 2020 at approximately 5:17 p.m., New York State Police at Oneonta arrested Joshua Z. Raudibaugh, age 43 of Morris, NY for the felony of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the first degree and the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.  While on Main Street in the city of Oneonta, a trooper observed a vehicle with vehicle and traffic law violations.  The trooper further observed the operator, later identified as Raudibaugh pull into the parking lot of Speedway on Main Street and nearly strike a vehicle that was exiting the parking lot.  During the investigation, the trooper immediately observed that Raudibaugh displayed common characteristics associated with drug impairment.  After an investigation, Raudibaugh was arrested.  He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the city of Oneonta court on February 10, 2020. 

On January 31, 2020 at approximately 1:40 a.m., New York State Police at Richfield Springs arrested Jana L. Daley, age 48 of Springfield, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  Troopers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that collided with a utility pole on State Highway 80 in the town of Springfield.  As troopers interviewed Daley, the detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage.  After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Daley was arrested.  Her reportable B.A.C was .17%.  Daley was processed and released on appearance tickets to the town of Springfield court on February 20, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party. 

On January 31, 2020 at approximately 6:39 p.m., New York State Police at Oneonta arrested John D. Lafever, age 47 of Unadilla, NY for the felonies of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years) and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with Child (Leandra’s Law).  He was additionally charged with the misdemeanor of Operating a Motor Vehicle without Ignition Interlock Device.  Troopers were dispatched to Unateogo Central School where witnesses alleged that Lafever drove to a school event with a child and was allegedly impaired.  Troopers interviewed Lafever and determined that he was impaired and had driven under the influence of alcohol.  Lafever was arrested and processed at SP Oneonta.  He was later transported to Otsego County Central Arraignment and Processing and released on his own recognizance.  Lafever is set to appear in the town of Otego court on February 13, 2020.
