PRESS RELEASE
On Friday, March 4, 2022, just after 1:30 PM, the State Police responded to a robbery of a vehicle on the northbound Meadowbrook State Parkway, near Exit M10, in the Town of Hempstead, County of Nassau. The investigation revealed the victim was attempting to sell a vehicle, a 2011 Infiniti G37, to the suspect. While on a test drive, the suspect pulled over onto the shoulder of the parkway, then physically assaulted and shot the victim in the back of the head with a BB gun and forced him out of the vehicle. The suspect fled the area with the Infiniti G37, leaving the victim on the shoulder of the parkway. The victim was transported to Nassau University Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
After a lengthy investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), the suspect was identified as Roberto Reyes, age 23, of the Bronx, NY and was arrested by the New York State Police on January 19, 2023.
Reyes was charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Displays Firearm (B – Felony), Assault with Intent to Cause Physical Injury with a Weapon 2nd Degree (D – Felony), and Grand Larceny 4th Degree (E – Felony). Reyes was arraigned at Nassau County First District Court and held on $75,000 cash bail/$150,000 bond.
In addition to the BCI, the New York State Police utilized numerous specialized units to investigate this crime including the Forensic Identification Unit (FIU), Community Stabilization Unit (CSU), Computer Crimes Unit (CCU), Violent Felony Warrant Squad (VFW), and the New York State Intelligence Center (NYSIC), who’s efforts resulted in a dangerous criminal having to answer for his crimes.
