PRESS RELEASE

On January 1, 2023, at approximately 2:15 a.m., troopers from the Greenville barracks (Orange County), along with City of Middletown Police responded to Crescent Place in the city of Middletown for a report of a vehicle attempting to run someone over. Upon arrival troopers observed a male subject unconscious on the ground. Troopers immediately administered first aid. Katelyn A. Stevens, age 36, from Middletown, stated the individual on the ground attempted to rob her. While troopers were speaking with Stevens about the alleged robbery, Middletown Police were taking another subject into custody. As troopers assisted with that arrest Stevens became aggressive and attempted to stop the arrest. She began to yell at the officers and troopers on the scene and physically punched a trooper in the face. Troopers restrained Stevens and arrested her. After being arrested, Stevens spit blood in the face of the arresting trooper. She was charged with Obstruction of Governmental Administration, a misdemeanor and Assault 2nd degree, a felony. Stevens was transported to Orange County Jail and held for pre-arraignment detention.

The trooper was transported to Garnet Health in Wallkill where he was treated and released.

On January 2, 2023, Stevens was arraigned at the Orange County Jail in front of Judge Hendry. She was released on her own recognizance and ordered to appear in the City of Middletown Court on January 4, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
