On August 3, 2021, at approximately 1:40 a.m., state police from the Montgomery barracks stopped a 2019 Toyota Camry on South William Street in the city of Newburgh for a traffic violation. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Tashe Jackson, age 33 from the city of Newburgh. While speaking with troopers it was determined that she was impaired by drugs. She was subsequently charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.
The two passengers in the vehicle were identified as Octavious Griffin, age 34 from the city of Newburgh and Danyell Hardison, age 35 from New York, NY. While being interviewed by troopers, Griffin and Hardison attempted to hide a Glock 9mm pistol and a magazine containing eight rounds. Griffin was also found to be in possession crack cocaine and $4,040 which was taken into evidence. The pistol that was found was reported stolen out of Conway, South Carolina.
Tashe Jackson was issued an appearance ticket for DWAI Drugs returnable to the City of Newburgh Court on September 2, 2021 at 8:30 a.m.
Octavious Griffin was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Possession of Stolen Property, all felonies.
Danyell Hardison was charged with Criminal Possession of Weapon 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Tampering with Physical Evidence, all felonies.
Griffin and Hardison were arraigned before City Judge Forbes in the City of Newburgh Court. both were remanded to Orange County Jail. Hardison’s bail was set at $5,000 cash/$10,000 bond/$20,000 secure bond. Griffin was remanded without bail because of four previous felony convictions.
