PRESS RELEASE

On August 14, 2022, at approximately 8:50 p.m., troopers responded to a residence on Mohawk Trail on the town of Bethel for a report of an assault and attempted burglary. A preliminary investigation revealed that Daniel Desseauve, age 38 from the town of Highland approached a house with a pickaxe, pushed the front door open and began swinging the axe at the homeowner. The homeowner was able to prevent Desseauve from striking him and was able to forcibly remove him from house. Another person in the home contacted 911 while Desseauve continued to gain reentry into the house. Desseauve then caused significant damage to two vehicles that were parked at the residence. When troopers arrived, Desseauve was standing near the vehicle he used to drove to Mohawk Trail. While speaking with troopers it was determined that he was intoxicated. He was taken into custody and charged with Burglary 1st degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, both felonies. He was additionally charged with felony DWI, Menacing 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, both misdemeanors, and Harassment 2nd degree, a violation.
