On December 17, 2022, around 10:31 a.m., a trooper observed a vehicle traveling on State Route 22 in the town of Peru without an inspection sticker.  The trooper turned around on the vehicle and attempted to catch up to it.  Prior to a traffic stop, the trooper noticed, break lights a quick decline in the driver’s speed.  By the time the Trooper caught up to the vehicle on the Dashnaw Road in the town of Peru, the vehicle crashed in the side of a residence.  The Trooper observed the occupants quickly get out of the vehicle and attempt to leave the scene. 

An investigation determined the driver, who provided the trooper the wrong name at first, Gerald F. Mace III, age 45, of Ausable, NY was driving without a license, had no inspection on the vehicle, was in possession of drug paraphernalia, had an active order of protection in place, protecting a passenger that was in the vehicle, and had active warrants out of the City of Plattsburgh. 

Mace was arrested and transported to SP Plattsburgh for processing.  He was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, criminal contempt 2nd- disobey court order, criminal impersonation, issued traffic tickets for aggravated unlicensed operator, unlicensed operator, and no inspection.  He was arraigned in the Town of Peru Court and released on his own recognizances.  Mace was then arraigned in the City of Plattsburgh Court for the two warrants and remanded to Clinton County Jail on $10,000 bail. 

Brittany L. St. John, age 34, of Plattsburgh, NY was a passenger in the vehicle.  She was found in the possession of drug paraphernalia.  She was arrested and processed at SP Plattsburgh.  She was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th.  She was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Plattsburgh Court for a later date in January.
