On April 24, 2020, State Police in Princetown arrested 19-year-old Yhan Diaz Cortes of Albany, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (C felony) and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree (E felony).

State Police stopped a vehicle operated by Diaz Cortes shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, after he failed to move over for a Trooper conducting a traffic stop on I-890 in the City of Schenectady. Diaz Cortes passed the Trooper at a high rate of speed nearly striking the patrol unit.

The Trooper was able to catch up to Diaz Cortes and initiated a traffic stop. While interviewing Diaz Cortes the Trooper could smell that odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed that Diaz Cortes was in possession of a small quantity of marijuana and a loaded 9mm handgun. Further investigation determined that the gun was stolen property.

Diaz Cortes was taken into custody and transported to SP Princetown for processing. He was arraigned in Rotterdam Court and remanded to Schenectady County Jail on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. He is due in Schenectady City Court on May 7, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.
