PRESS RELEASE
 

 

Hamburg, NY – On August 22, 2020, at approximately 6:40 p.m., State Police received a report of a vehicle involved in multiple hit and run accidents, entering I-90 from the Williamsville toll plaza, in the town of Hamburg.  Troopers observed the Chevrolet Impala with damage on both sides of the vehicle, traveling over 100 mph, westbound in the town of Cheektowaga.  State Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply, and a pursuit ensued through the town of West Seneca and into the town of Hamburg, where the vehicle attempted to exit at the Lackawanna Exit. 

 

Upon proceeding through the Lackawanna toll plaza, Troopers were able to get the vehicle stopped and took the driver into custody.  The driver William J. Cloutier, 26, of Amherst, NY, was determined to be intoxicated.  He was transported and processed at SP Buffalo where he refused to submit to a breath test to determine the alcohol content in his system. 

 

Cloutier was subsequently charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree; a Class A Misdemeanor, Resisting Arrest; a Class A Misdemeanor, Driving While Intoxicated; an Unclassified Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving; an Unclassified Misdemeanor, and several Vehicle and Traffic Violations.

 

Cloutier was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Hamburg Court on September 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., as well as numerous traffic tickets returnable to both the Town of West Seneca and the Town of Cheektowaga Courts.
