Two Teenagers Injured in Car Crash in Beekman
On January 8, at about 6:10 p.m., New York State Troopers responded to a one-car personal-injury auto accident with the occupants reportedly trapped inside the vehicle on Beekman Road, north of Walker Road, in the town of Beekman. The occupants were removed from their vehicles and assisted at the scene by state troopers, members of the Beekman Fire Department, and employees of Transcare Ambulance. Preliminary investigation indicated that the driver, Mario A. Campisi, 17, of Poughquag, lost control of a 2007 Nissan Sentra when he failed to negotiate a curve at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then slid for about 100 feet before it spun off the roadway where it struck a residential mailbox and a tree. Campisi sustained head trauma from the collision and was found in a semi-conscious state by first responders. His 15 year-old passenger, Peter A. Vallone, of Hopewell Junction, cut his hand and complained of leg pain. Both teenagers were wearing seatbelts. In addition, multiple airbags deployed during the collision which likely saved them from more serious injuries. There were no indications of alcohol or drug use prior to the crash. Campisi and Vallone were transported to St. Francis Hospital by Transcare Ambulance crews. Vallone was treated for his injuries and released. Campisi subsequently regained consciousness and is currently listed in good condition. He suffered a concussion and is awaiting surgery due to multiple facial fractures.
Police investigation into the crash is continuing with any charges pending the outcome of the investigation. Beekman Road was for about an hour closed in the area of the accident for the emergency response and police investigation.
