School teacher arrested for Insurance Fraud and Grand Larceny

Washingtonville, NY - January 10, 2013
On 01/10/13, the New York State Police in Monroe arrested Timothy G. Johnson, age 49, of
Newburgh, NY, for the felony charges of Insurance Fraud in the second degree and Grand Larceny in the second degree.
Johnson, a teacher with the Washingtonville School District, was arrested after an investigation was conducted by the State Police in conjunction with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Johnson knowingly carried an unqualified dependant on his health insurance plan for approximately twelve (12) years. The school district, which uses the Orange Ulster BOCES Health Plan, suffered a loss in excess of $50,000 during that time. Johnson was accompanied by his attorney, John Ingrassia of Newburgh, NY, when he turned himself in to the State Police.
Johnson was arraigned before Village of Washingtonville Justice Steven Smith on the two Class C Felonies. He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Village Court on 02/13/13 at 5:00 p.m.
