Troopers Make Arrest for Stolen Vehicle After Pursuit on Taconic

On July 30th, 2013 at approximately 10:30p, Tpr. Jeff Still from SP Stormville spotted a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the Taconic State Parkway southbound with its’ lights off. When the Trooper approached the vehicle, he made contact with the operator, Thomas A. Fogell, DOB 09/29/1992, of Danbury, CT, who stated he was fine and drove away. Fogell, however, never turned on his vehicle’s lights. Tpr. Still attempted to pull Fogell over and in the process, noticed considerable damage to the front of the vehicle. Fogell then attempted to speed away from the Trooper, reaching a top speed of 90mph before crashing into a guide rail on the Route 6 exit and fleeing on foot. Tpr. Still, along with Tpr. Eric Stefanik, then caught Fogell and took him into custody. Further investigation revealed the vehicle Fogell was operating was stolen from Connecticut, involved in a hit and run accident in the Town of East Fishkill an hour prior to his encounter with the Troopers, was on probation in Fairfield County, CT and had also disabled his court ordered electronic monitoring device before leaving Connecticut.
Fogell was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th, Unlawful Fleeing, Resisting Arrest, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was arraigned in East Fishkill Town Court before Town Justice Romig and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash / $50,000 bond. He is due to re-appear on August 4, 2013 at 5:00pm.
