NYSP Investigates Pennsylvania Man Fatally Electricuted

(Harpursville, NY, August 26, 2013) At approximately 11:11 am on August 26, 2013, the New York State Police at Binghamton, N.Y., investigated an industrial accident in which a Pennsylvania man was fatally electrocuted while conducting elevated train bridge measurements on State Route 235 in the Town of Colesville, N.Y.
The initial investigation revealed that Thomas F. Tarchak, age 39, of Simpson, PA, was obtaining bridge measurements under an elevated train track in a high lift when the lift came in contact with NYSEG powerlines causing Tarchak to be fatally electrocuted.
The New York State Police is continuing the investigation.
The New York State Police was assisted with this investigation by the Harpursville Fire Department; Superior and Colesville Ambulances; New York State Electric and Gas; and Canadian Pacific Railroad Police.
