NEW YORK STATE POLICE
Major Steven James
Troop G Commander
On March 4th, 2014 at approximately 5:11pm, Troopers assigned to the State Police Princetown station assisted Regional Market Loss Prevention Investigators from the CVS Pharmacy on Broadway, in the City of Schenectady, with a shoplifting complaint. Christel I. McGuire, 35, of Schenectady NY, was observed on CCTV placing multiple containers of baby formula into her personal bag, leave the store without paying and attempt to cross Broadway where she was stopped by the responding Troopers. McGuire was immediately detained and stated she was seven months pregnant and bought the baby formula at a local Hannaford store. After a brief investigation, McGuire was arrested for Petit Larceny and a search incident to this arrest yielded 2 used hypodermic needles, which she admitted were used for her personal heroin use that morning. McGuire was transported to the Princetown station for processing where it was learned that she also had active warrants out of the City of Schenectady and the Town of Rotterdam. She was processed without incident and arraigned in the City of Schenectady Court where she was remanded to the Schenectady County jail on $750.00 cash or $1000.00 bond.
As a precaution, Schenectady County CPS was contacted and advised of the incident.
