Pedestrian fatally stuck by tractor trailer on I-87

Albany, NY – On May 4, 2014 just after 10 p.m., State Police on the Thruway in Albany received a report of a pedestrian struck by a tractor trailer on I-87 at mile marker 143 in the City of Albany, Albany County.
State Police, Albany Fire Department, Mohawk Ambulance, and Thruway Authority immediately responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation reveals that an unidentified pedestrian was alone in the center of three southbound lanes when he was fatally struck by a 2013 Volvo tractor trailer.
The body of the man was removed by the Albany County Coroner and transported to Albany Medical Center.
State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Collision Reconstruction Unit are continuing the investigation into the identity of the pedestrian and cause of the accident.
All southbound traffic was re-routed via I-90 east to I-787 south which re-entered I-87 at exit 23.
At this time all lanes are open. Further details into the identity of the victim and operator of the tractor trailer will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
