Fatal Accident Investigation
On 7/27/14 at about 12:05 AM, a Honda S3000 was traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway near exit 40 at a high rate of speed, when the operator lost control and the vehicle entered the center median. The Honda then mounted the guide rail, causing the vehicle to go airborne and strike the Udall Road overpass, before landing in the westbound lanes of traffic and causing two more collisions. The Honda caused a second vehicle traveling westbound, a Honda Civic, to strike the center guide rail while attempting to avoid the Honda S3000. A third vehicle, a Toyota Rav4, also traveling westbound on the Southern Parkway, struck the Honda S3000, causing the Honda to ignite in flames.
The driver of the Honda S3000, Dexter Chung, age 24, of Rosedale NY, was pronounced deceased at the accident scene. Three occupants in the Honda Civic and Toyota were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for minor injuries. Accident investigation is on-going.
