Troopers investigating fatal pedestrian-motor vehicle crash

On October 13, 2016 Troopers responded to Interstate 787 in the City of Albany for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:18 pm in the southbound lane of I-787, just south of exit 2, in the roadway portion of the interstate where the pedestrian was walking.
Billie J. Tunis, 47, of Ghent, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Albany County Coroner and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for a later autopsy.
It is unknown at this time why she was walking on Interstate 787, a controlled access highway.
The vehicle operator, John S. Kalamaras, 29, of Albany, was uninjured and was operating a 2007 Toyota.
State Police members of the uniform patrol, BCI and Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene as part of the still active investigation which has not been finalized nor have any charges been lodged against the driver at this time.
Officials ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen a pedestrian walking along Interstate 787 to call them at 518-783- 3211.
