State Police investigate a one-car collision in Greenburgh, NY

Greenburgh, New York – On March 30, 2017 at approximately 12:18 a.m., New York State Police from the Hawthorne Barracks responded to the area of Mile Post Marker 4.9, southbound, on the Sprain Brook Parkway for a reported one-car collision. A preliminary investigation indicated that a 1998 Honda Civic, operated by James P. Campion, age 26, of White Plains, NY, was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. Pedro O. Mattos, age 21, of Mount Vernon, NY, was the only passenger. As Mr. Campion attempted to navigate around an uninvolved vehicle, he lost control of the vehicle striking the guide rail and then a tree. Mr. Campion was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office and Mr. Mattos was transported to the Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
Greenburgh Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. State police were assisted by the Town of Greenburgh PD, City of White Plains PD and the City of Mount Vernon PD. Any witnesses to the collision are requested to contact the State Police at Hawthorne at 914-769-2600.
