On April 22, 2017, at approximately 6:40 PM, a Brentwood trooper while on patrol on the westbound Southern State Parkway, east of Belmont Avenue, observed a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country move from it's lane unsafely. The trooper conducted a vehicle and traffic stop on the Chrysler and upon interviewing the operator, Megan Rose Genovese, age 27, of West Islip, NY, the trooper observed Ms. Genovese displaying signs of impairment. Ms. Genovese failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Ms. Genovese was also found to be in possession of Xanax. Ms. Genovese was traveling with her five year old twins inside the vehicle, along with her three other children ages seven, four and one. Three of the children were also not properly secured inside the vehicle.
The defendant was charged with Aggravated DWI (Leandra's Law, class E felony), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misd.), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (A Misd.) and traffic violations. Ms. Genovese was held overnight for morning arraignment at Suffolk County First District Court. All of the children were turned over to the custody of their Aunt.
