Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested After Pursuit from RFK Bridge
Major Robert Willis
Troop Commander
(917) 492-7100

New York City - On April 28, New York State Police assigned to the Manhattan barracks arrested Carl D. Jones Jr., age 19, of Willingboro, New Jersey, as a fugitive from justice on a New Jersey arrest warrant charging him with Attempted Homicide and as a parole absconder after a short vehicle pursuit that started on the RFK Bridge.

At about 9:48PM, a license plate reader on a State Police vehicle patrolling the RFK Bridge alerted state troopers that Jones's vehicle was associated with an attempted homicide in Edgewater Park, New Jersey.  Troopers and a Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority officer attempted to stop Jones at the Manhattan-bound RFK Bridge toll plaza.  Instead, he fled from the toll plaza and drove onto Randalls Island where his vehicle was surrounded and stopped by several state troopers a few minutes later.  Jones was removed from his vehicle and arrested after a brief struggle.  He was found in possession of a loaded 9-millimeter handgun as well as cocaine, heroin and controlled prescription pills.  A 21-year old woman and a 15-year old male were passengers inside Jones's vehicle during the police pursuit.  Neither person was charged and both were subsequently released.

Jones was subsequently transported to NYPD's 25th Precinct for arrest processing.  In addition to the New Jersey warrant for Attempted Homicide and parole violations, Jones was charged with multiple felonies in New York involving illegal weapons and drug possession, Unlawfully Fleeing from a Police Officer 3rd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, False Personation (for lying to troopers about his identity after he was arrested), and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  He will be arraigned tonight in Manhattan Criminal Court.

State Police were assisted in the investigation and arrest processing by personnel from the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, NYPD's 25th Precinct, and the Edgewater Park Town Police Department in New Jersey.
