Plane crash in Colton

On May 3, 2017, at approximately 8:32 p.m., St. Lawrence County 911 received a call reporting a plane crash in the vicinity of 327 Windmill Road in Colton. An investigation revealed a light twin-engine aircraft crashed in a heavily wooded area. The sole occupant aboard the aircraft was the pilot, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The pilot has tentatively been identified as Eric Carrier, 35, of St. Gedeon De Beauce, Quebec.
St. Lawrence County Coroner, June Wood, responded to the scene and authorized the removal of the body to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where an autopsy is scheduled for May 5, 2017.
The State Police were assisted at the scene by the following agencies: Colton Fire Department, Pierrepont Fire Department, Hannawa Fire Department, St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
Members of the FAA Flight Standards District Office in Albany, and members of the NTSB from Washington, D.C. will take over the investigation of the crash.
