Major John H. Tibbitts Jr.
Troop B Commander
On May 10, 2017, at approximately 7:25 a.m., State Police responded to 435 Hosley Avenue in the town of Tupper Lake for a report of two individuals deceased. A preliminary investigation at the scene is consistent with a murder suicide. The male located at the scene, Stacey Ayotte, 47, is believed to have shot the female, Jamie Martin, 34 years old, and then himself. The deceased were both located outside the residence in close proximity. A rifle was also located at the scene near Ayotte’s body.
The deceased had two children in common who were located at another location in the village of Tupper Lake in good health.
Franklin County Coroner Shawn Stuart responded to the scene and directed the bodies to be removed to the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, where an autopsy will be conducted on May 11, 2017.
The Tupper Lake Police Department is assisting with this investigation, as well as the New York State Forest Rangers and Department of Environmental Conservation, and Sunmount Safety Officers.
This investigation is currently ongoing and further information will be released at a later time.
