Multiple Vehicle Tractor Trailer Accident
Major David C. Candelaria
On Tuesday, August 22, 2017, troopers from the Riverside Barracks were investigating a commercial vehicle auto accident on eastbound Sunrise Highway (State Route 27), east of Exit 62 (County Route 111) in Eastport, NY, involving a single dump truck, which exited the highway into the wooded area on the right shoulder due to a tire blow out. The right lane was closed for this accident, causing traffic to back up at that location. At approximately 1:00 pm, a tractor-trailer owned and operated by Noah M. Kuloglu, age 54, of East Northport, NY, was approaching the stopped traffic due to the lane closure, but failed to adequately reduce his speed. The tractor-trailer ended up striking several vehicles that were stopped in traffic, continued off the highway, and came to rest in the wooded area on the right shoulder.
