Driving While Ability Impaired Arrest After Collision
NEW YORK STATE POLICE
Major David C. Candelaria
Troop L Commander
On November 19th at about 5:09 PM, Robert Miller, age 28, of Hampton Bays, NY, was operating a 2007 Ford Econoline E250 eastbound on Sunrise Highway, just east of County Route 111 in Southampton. While traveling in the right lane and following another vehicle too closely, Miller rear-ended the vehicle ahead of him. After the collision, both vehicles safely pulled onto the shoulder of the roadway. Miller then exited his vehicle and collapsed on the pavement. When the Troopers arrived on the scene they found Miller unresponsive with labored breathing, observing pills within his vehicle. The Troopers pulled him off the roadway and administered Naloxone, attempting to counteract a possible drug overdose. Miller remained unresponsive until emergency medical services arrived. He regained consciousness shortly thereafter and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The pills within the vehicle were determined to be a controlled substance and were seized as evidence.
Mr. Miller was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs(Misdemeanor) and an arraignment date has been set for December 5th in the Town of Southampton Court.
