Schuyler based state police charged Brian C. Corbin, age 34, of Mechanicville, N.Y. with driving while impaired by drugs following a crash on the New York State Thruway Tuesday morning.
At approximately 9:50 a.m. on January 23, Trooper Charles Humphreville was dispatched to a property damage accident on the Thruway in the town of Danube, Herkimer County. Trooper Humphreville located a 2016 Dodge Caravan along the north shoulder of the westbound lane operated by Corbin. The accident investigation determined that Corbin was westbound when he drifted off the north shoulder of the roadway and struck a guiderail. Trooper Humphreville noticed that Corbin appeared to have trouble speaking and had poor motor coordination. Further questioning and sobriety tests indicated Corbin was impaired by something other than alcohol. He was transported to the SP Oneida barracks for an evaluation by a drug recognition expert and found to be impaired by drugs he had ingested earlier that morning. A blood sample was secured for testing at the New York State Police Forensic Lab and Corbin was processed at the SP Schuyler barracks for DWAI-drugs along with additional traffic charges. Corbin was arraigned in the town of German Flatts court and remanded to Herkimer County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $3,000 bond. He is to appear in the town of Danube court on February 5, 2018.
