 On Thursday February 8, 2018 State Police at Middletown executed a search warrant at a residence in the Town of Wawayanda that resulted in the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition.  The two-week long investigation determined that Norwell Therien, age 39 of Middletown, NY illegally possessed the weapons, along with marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms.  The search resulted in the recovery of a Glock 9mm, five assault rifles that included an Uzi with a fifty round magazine and a Calico 9mm rifle with a 100 round high capacity magazine.  Two AK 47 style rifles were located along with their 100 round drum magazines.  A bump-stock that fit the AK 47 rifles was recovered.  Additionally, police located eleven rifles that were illegally possessed, 32 high capacity magazines that fit assault rifles and pistols, one pound of marijuana, a quantity of hallucinogenic mushrooms, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. One of the rifles recovered was determined to be stolen from Rockland County. 

Therien was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, 5 counts of Criminal  Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, and Criminal Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, all felonies.  He was additionally charged with eleven counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, 32 counts of Possession of a High Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, misdemeanors.  Therien was arraigned in the Town of Wawayanda Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of  $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 secured bond.  State Police at Middletown were assisted by the Orange County District Attorney's Office and the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.
