Update on missing skier from Whiteface Mountain who was located
NEW YORK STATE POLICE
Major John H. Tibbitts Jr.
Troop B Commander
On February 13, 2018, Constantinos “Danny” Filippidis, a 49-year-old male from Toronto, Canada, was found after a 6-day exhaustive search. He was located alive and in good health in Sacramento, California, ending a multi-agency search at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in Wilmington, New York. At approximately 12:30 p.m., Filippidis made contact with his wife and then with police in Sacramento. He was evaluated, treated and released from an area hospital in California. Since Filippidis was located, the Incident Command Post has been broken down.
Several agencies and volunteers participated in the search efforts and we would like to take a moment to recognize and thank them: the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers, who initiated and led the initial search efforts; the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the Olympic Regional Development Authority, the Office of Emergency Management, the Office of Fire Prevention Services, United States Customs and Border Protection, the Whiteface and Gore Mountain ski patrols, Toronto Professional Fire Services, Search and Rescue of the Northern Adirondacks (SARNAK), Lower Adirondack Search and Rescue (LASAR), the Belleayre Ski Patrol and the New York State Federation of Search and Rescue (FEDSAR).
