On February 16, 2018, New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) executed a search warrant at 10 Johnson Park in the city of Utica.
Jesse C. Brown Jr., age 35, who resides at that address, was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree (B-Felony). Brown was charged with possessing approximately 26 grams of heroin/fentanyl* mixture. Several items of evidence were recovered from the residence and are being forwarded to the New York State Police Crime Lab for analysis – additional charges are pending.
Brown was arraigned in the city of Utica Court before the Hon. F. Christopher Giruzzi and remanded to the Oneida County Jail. Investigators believe Brown is also involved in several overdose deaths in Oneida and Herkimer Counties. He is scheduled to appear in the city of Utica court on February 22, 2018.
*Fentanyl is a painkiller commonly used in hospital operating rooms. Opioids like fentanyl work directly on the respiratory center of the brainstem. This can result in a depression of a person’s ability to breathe properly. In the case of fentanyl, it can kill a person rapidly by paralyzing muscles in their chest that help them breathe. It can be up to 100 percent more potent than heroin.
