Averill Park man arrested on rape and sexual misconduct charges

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Schodack, along with investigators from the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs, arrested a 26-year-old Averill Park man for engaging in sexual contact with a resident of Vanderheyden IRA (Individualized Residential Alternative Group Homes).
On April 02, 2018, Matthew L. Brennan, 26, Averill Park, was charged on a Rensselaer County Grand Jury Indictment with three counts of Rape 3rd degree, a class E Felony, three counts of Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person 1st degree, a class E Felony, and three counts of Sexual Misconduct a class A Misdemeanor, resulting from incidents occurring in May 2017.
Brennan was an employee at Vanderheyden IRA at the time of the incidents.
Brennan was arraigned in Rensselaer County Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail without bail, pending court hearings.
