On Wednesday, April 4th, 2018, the New York State Police based in Fonda arrested 51 year old David Coager of Fonda for DWI following a traffic stop.

At approximately 10:27 p.m., Mr. Coager was observed operating a 2002 Jeep Cherokee on Broadway in the Village of Fonda.  The vehicle was driving down the center of the roadway and had an inoperable passenger side brake lamp.  A traffic stop was initiated.   The operator stopped in the car in the Stewart's parking lot on Broadway and immediately exited the vehicle.  When engaged in conversation with the Trooper, the Trooper observed the odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from Mr. Coager.  He also had watery, bloodshot eyes, and staggered.

Mr. Coager was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which he subsequently failed.  He also submitted to a Pre-Breath Test Screening which yielded a positive result for the presence of alcohol.  He was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition and was transported back to the State Police barracks in Fonda.  While at SP Fonda, Mr. Coager provided a breath sample which yielded a 0.08% BAC.  He was charged with misdemeanor level DWI, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 3rd degree.  He was issued appearance tickets for the Town of Mohawk Court at a later date, and was then remanded to Montgomery County Jail as a result of a parole violation warrant.
