PRESS RELEASE

On Saturday, June 2, 2018, the New York State Police based in Fonda arrested 32 year old Erik Skaarland of Amsterdam for DWI following a traffic stop.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., Mr. Skaarland was observed operating a white Ram van westbound on State Highway 5S in Rotterdam Junction.  The van was seen crossing over the double yellow lines.  A traffic stop was initiated.

During the conversation with Mr. Skaarland, the Trooper observed the odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from within the passenger compartment of the vehicle and Mr. Skaarland exhibited glassy eyes and slurred speech.  He was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which he subsequently failed.  He also submitted to a Pre-Breath Test screening which yielded a positive result for the presence of alcohol.

Mr. Skaarland was placed under arrest for the suspicion of DWI and transported to the SP Fonda barracks.  At SP Fonda, he submitted to a breath test which yielded a 0.10% BAC.  He was processed and released to a sober third party with appearance tickets for the Town of Rotterdam Court at a later date.
