Cortland man arrested for arson and larceny

(Cortlandville, NY – June 12, 2018) – On June 11, 2018 at approximately 8:56 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested David J. Thompson, age 28, of Cortland for the felony of Arson in the 2nd degree and the misdemeanor of Petit Larceny.
Troopers were dispatched to the Walmart on Bennie Road in the town of Cortlandville for a larceny where the suspect had fled on a bicycle. A short time later, troopers were called to a fire that was believed to have been set deliberately at Dunkin Donuts in Cortlandville. The suspect matched the description of the person involved in the theft at Walmart. After an investigation, the fire was determined to be of an incendiary nature with no accidental cause present in the area. Thompson was arrested and arraigned in the town of Cortlandville where he was remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail. A felony hearing is scheduled for June 15, 2018 and he is scheduled to appear in court on June 18, 2018 for the petit larceny.
