PRESS RELEASE

On June 11 at about 2:40PM, a New York State Trooper patrolling the upper-level of the eastbound Verrazano-Narrows Bridge stopped a 2018 BMW sedan for speeding and having a covered rear license plate.  The trooper detected a strong odor of marihuana coming from inside the vehicle and observed two marihuana cigarettes inside the vehicle while speaking with the driver.  The driver, Robert Degen, age 57 and a resident of Staten Island, had a suspended Florida driver's license.  He was removed from the vehicle as other law enforcement officers arrived.  His vehicle was subsequently searched.  More than 18 pounds of vegatative marihuana packaged in 15 plastic bags were discovered, as well as sixty 500-milligram packets of THC oil, and a wooden billy club.  Degen was arrested at the scene and his vehicle was impounded by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.

Degen was transported to NYPD's 120th Precinct where he was processed and charged with Criminal Possesion of Marihuana 1st Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree including Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree.  He was subsequently transported to Richmond County Central Booking and held for arraignment in Staten Island Criminal Court.  The marihuana and THC oil were transported and turned over to personnel at NYPD's Crime Lab.

New York State Police were assisted in their investigation by members of the New York Police Department and officers from the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
