Domestic dispute results in several charges

(Tompkins, NY – July 9, 2018) – On July 5, 2018 at approximately 11:00 p.m., New York State Police at Deposit arrested William A. Caiati, age 25, of Tompkins, NY for the felony of Aggravated Family Offense, the misdemeanors of Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree (Intent to Damage Property), Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree (Prevent Emergency Call), Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and two counts of the violation Harassment in the 2nd degree.
A trooper was dispatched by Delaware County 911 on July 4, 2018 to a reported domestic which was not in progress. One victim reported that William placed his hands around her neck, restricting breathing and was shoved by Caiati causing her to fall and injure her wrist. The victim attempted to call 911 using the house phone but Caiati threw the phone, disabling it. He also threw a gas can at the victim's windshield. A second victim reported that William punched her in the shoulder when she attempted to intervene.
Caiati was not on scene when the trooper arrived and troopers attempted to locate him. On July 5, the trooper made contact with William telephonically and he agreed to turn himself in. He was arraigned in the town of Deposit and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1000 cash bail. An order of protection was also signed by judge protecting the victims.
