State Police arrest OPWDD staff member following a report of abuse in Tupper Lake

On July 9, 2018, State Police arrested a Tupper Lake man following a report of abuse at the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities Sunmount facility in the town of Tupper Lake which occurred on April 23, 2018.
A 33-year-old male consumer reported that he was pushed and his arm was injured by staff member Nicholas A. Mellon, 21. The victim sustained bruising on his left arm as well as scratches on his neck. The consumer declined medical assistance.
Mellon was charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Person 2nd degree. He was released on an appearance ticket for the Tupper Lake Town Court on July 11, 2018, at 4 p.m.
