Five subjects arrested following burglary investigation in Chazy

September 29, 2018, at 4:43 p.m. State Police responded to 62 Sugarbush Drive in the town of Chazy, for a report of a burglary in progress. The caller, a neighbor who witnessed the burglary, had attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle and was nearly run over as it was leaving the scene.
Troopers located the vehicle on State Route 22 in Beekmantown. The vehicle occupants, 35-year-old Matthew A. Barcomb and 18-year-old Nicole E. Daniels, both of Plattsburgh, were taken into custody. Three additional suspects were later located: 67-year-old Richard C. Trombley, of Mooers, 41-year-old James G. Ayotte, and 41-year-old Wendy L. Barbeau, both of West Chazy.
Further investigation revealed the homeowner, 61-year-old Robert K. Bailey, was growing marijuana at his residence and the suspects forced entry to the home and stole plants and marijuana already harvested.
Barcomb, Ayotte, Barbeau and Daniels were each charged with one count of Burglary 2nd degree (felony). Daniels, who was found to be driving the vehicle as it fled the scene, was additionally charged with one count of Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree (misdemeanor).
Trombley was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree (misdemeanor) and released with an appearance ticket for Chazy Town Court.
Bailey was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana 4th degree (misdemeanor) and Unlawful Growing of Marijuana (Public Health Law misdemeanor). He was released with appearance tickets returnable to the Chazy Town Court.
Barcomb and Daniels were arraigned in the Chazy Town Court. Both were released after posting bail.
Ayotte was arraigned in the Chazy Town Court and remanded to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail, or $2,000 bond. Barbeau was arraigned in Chazy Town Court and remanded to the the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail, or $1,000 bond.
