Fatal accident involving pedestrian in Oneonta

PRESS RELEASE

(Oneonta, NY, October 14, 2018) - New York State Police at Oneonta responded to a fatal accident Saturday, October 13, 2018 at approximately 8:18 p.m. on State Route 23 in the town of Oneonta.
 
A 45-year-old woman from Walton was pronounced deceased at the scene.  She is identified as Katy Doughty.  An investigation revealed that Doughty was crossing State Route 23 near State Highway 28 when she was struck by a vehicle traveling east on State Route 23.  The section of road is not lit and she was not crossing at a crosswalk.  Two people passing the area at the time of the accident provided CPR.  Oneonta EMS and Fire attempted to provide lifesaving measures but were unable to.  County corner Terry Knapp responded to the scene where he pronounced Doughty dead and she was transported to Lourdes Hospital for an autopsy.
 
Other agencies on scene included the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department, Pindars Corners Fire Department and the New York State Department of Transportation. 
 
The accident remains under investigation.  At this time, no tickets have been issued.
