Fatal Fire in North Granville

PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police in Granville is currently investigating a fatal fire which occurred in North Granville during the early morning hours of October 20th.  Reports of a structure fire came in shortly after 1:00am.  Troopers from the Granville Barracks responded within minutes and learned of a possible victim being trapped inside the burning structure.  Troopers entered the residence and attempted to locate and rescue the victim.  However, they were turned back by thick smoke and intense heat.  Multiple volunteer fire departments responded and extinguished the fire.  Upon the fire being extinguished, a single victim was located deceased within the structure.  Investigators with the NYSP BCI responded as well as the Washington County Coroner's Office, and fire investigators from both Washington County and the State.  The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical.
