Traffic stop in Barton results in two arrests

(Barton, NY – October 29, 2018) – On October 21, 2018 at approximately 1:45 p.m., New York State Police at Owego arrested two people after a traffic stop.
Brittany A. Best, age 28 of Endicott NY was arrested for the felony of Tampering with Physical Evidence and the misdemeanors of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration.
A trooper on patrol observed a vehicle traveling on railroad tracks on Chapel Road in Barton. He observed that the vehicle did not have a New York State Inspection Sticker. When he attempted to make a traffic stop, a black box was thrown out the passenger side window. After an investigation the rear passenger of the vehicle, Brittany Best was arrested. The investigation revealed that the box contained drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.
Another passenger in the vehicle, Chelsea Cole, age 34 of Waverly, NY was arrested after she was found to have an active arrest warrant in the City of Elmira. Cole was turned over to the City of Elmira Police Department.
Best was arraigned in the town of Barton Court where she was remanded to the Tioga County Jail on $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
