PRESS RELEASE

Several people were taken off the roadways in Troop C and arrested for DWI or DWAI over the last few days.  Here is the list:

On November 29, 2018 at approximately 9:16 p.m., New York State Police at Margaretville arrested Ronald J. Wright, age 38 of Unadilla, NY for the misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of .17%.  A trooper observed a male urinating next to his vehicle at the gate to Wadler Brothers on State Highway 28 in the town of Middletown.  After an investigation, the trooper determined that Wright was impaired and unable to operate a vehicle safely.  He was subsequently arrested and later released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Middletown on December 18, 2018.

On November 30, 2018 at approximately 1:20 a.m., New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Elliott P. Chotas, age 52 of Marysville, PA for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  He was also issued additional citations for Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test and Failure to Yield the Right of Way.  Troopers traveling on Upper Front Street when the vehicle Elliott was operating pulled out in front of the patrol car, failing to yield the right of way.  Subsequent to an investigation, he was arrested and arraigned at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing where he was released on his own recognizance.  He will appear in the town of Dickinson Court at a later date.

On November 30, 2018 at approximately 1:57 a.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Kevin J. Reese, age 27 of Homer, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of .17%.  
Troopers stopped Reese for speeding while he was on State Route 281 in the town of Homer.  After an investigation, he was arrested for DWI.  Reese was later released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Homer Court on January 8, 2019.

On November 30, 2018 at approximately 8:03 p.m., New York State Police at Margaretville arrested William W. Weil III, age 28, of Tompkins, NY for the misdemeanors of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.  He was also issued several traffic citations.  A trooper was dispatched by Delaware County 911 to a report of a one car motor vehicle accident near the Speedway on State Highway 28 in the town of Middletown.  The trooper discovered Weil in the running vehicle, with the vehicle still in drive, in the shoulder of the road and slumped over. Weil was evaluated by Margaretville EMS and did not want further treatment.  After an investigation he was arrested.  A further investigation revealed that Weil was in possession of suspected heroin.  Weil was issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Middletown Court on December 18, 2018. 

 
On November 30, 2018 at approximately 9:42 p.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested James J. Carro Jr., age 27 of Groton, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  He was also issued several traffic tickets, including one for Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test.  A trooper observed the vehicle Carro was operating was driving over the hazard lines and did not have its headlights on while on N. Triphammer Road in the town of Lansing.  After an investigation, he was arrested and arraigned in the town of Lansing where he was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $400 cash bail or $2,000 bond.  His next court appearance eis December 6, 2018.

On December 1, 2018 at approximately 12:21 a.m., New York State Police at Greene arrested Alex J. Taylor, age 32 of Union, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of .13%.  He was also issued traffic tickets.  Troopers observed the vehicle Taylor was operating to fail to stop at a stop signed while on Airport Road.  After a traffic stop was initiated and an investigation, Taylor was arrested for DWI.  He was subsequently released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Greene Court on December 13, 2018.

On December 1, 2018 at approximately 2:21 a.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Mary A. Kupiec, age 45 of Nanticoke, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of .13%.  Troopers checked on the welfare of a person in a vehicle parked on the side of State Route 26 in the town of Union.  They discovered Kupiec slumped over wheel of her running vehicle. After an investigation, Kupiec was arrested and later released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Union Court on December 11, 2018.

On December 1, 2018 at approximately 3:46 a.m., New York State Police at Binghamton arrested two people for Driving While Intoxicated after they each made an illegal u-turn in separate vehicles.  Timothy B. Ritchie Jr., age 38 of Barker, NY was arrested for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of .10%.  Debra A. Gage, age 50 of Vestal NY was also arrested for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of .14%.  
Troopers observed the vehicle Ritchie was operating make a u-turn in front of a “no u-turn” sign on Route 11 in the town of Kirkwood.  Gage was directly behind Ritchie and followed in making the same u-turn.  A traffic stop was initiated and both was arrested for DWI.  Both was later released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Kirkwood Court on December 13, 2018.

On December 2, 2018 at approximately 5:06 a.m., New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Carly L. Myers, age 35 of Kirkwood, NY for the misdemeanor of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of .19%.   
Troopers were dispatched to a residence on Colesville Road on the town of Kirkwood after homeowners called 911 because an unknown vehicle was in their driveway, revving its engine and honking its horn.  Troopers discovered Myers in the driver’s seat and determined she was too impaired to be safely operating a vehicle.  She was subsequently arrested for DWI.  She was later released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Kirkwood Court on January 8, 2019.

On December 2, 2018 at approximately 10:42 a.m., New York State Police at Homer (Interstate Patrol) arrested Robert P. Salanger, age 21 of Brewerton, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper located Salanger sleeping in a running vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 81 in the town of Cortlandville, his vehicle also appeared to have been involved in an accident.  The trooper determined that Salanger was impaired and he was arrested for DWI.  He was later released on an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Cortlandville Court on December 10, 2018.

On December 1, 2018 at approximately 2:00 a.m., New York State Police at Oneonta arrested Susanna R. Zock, age 58 of Laurens, NY for the misdemeanors of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.  Troopers responded to a complaint of a driver of a vehicle driving all over the road and at 10 to 15 mph in a 55mph zone on State highway 205 in the town of Laurens. Troopers located the vehicle and observed Zock swerving in the lanes and at one point, in the oncoming lane of traffic.  A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation revealed she was too impaired to safely operate a vehicle.  Troopers also discovered pills not prescribed to Zock during the course of the investigation.  Zock was subsequently arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Laurens Court on December 20, 2018.

On December 2, 2018 at approximately 1:00 p.m., New York state Police at Sidney arrested Brian K. Larson, age 41 of Masonville, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and the violation of Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Troopers observed the vehicle Larson was operating with an equipment violation on State Route 7 then turn into the Family Dollar on North Main Street in Bainbridge. Troopers observed several characteristics indicative of impairment and after an investigation, Larson was arrested then arraigned in the town of Bainbridge Court.

On December 4, 2018 at approximately 10:05 a.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Kiara K. Brown, age 22 of Syracuse, NY for the felony of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with Child 15 or Under as Passenger and the misdemeanors of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  She was also issued traffic tickets. 
 
Troopers were dispatched to a vehicle off the road on Health Camp Road in the town of Homer.  They found the vehicle Brown was operating off the shoulder of the road.  An investigation yielded several grams of marijuana.  A further investigation revealed that Brown was impaired by drugs.  She was arrested and arraigned in the town of Homer where she was remanded to the Cortland County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
