Long Beach Couple Arrested on Multiple Charges to Include Assault on New York State Troopers

On Sunday, December 23, 2018, at approximately 1:35 am, on the Southern State Parkway westbound, west of exit 21 (Nassau Road), in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, NY, troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2017 Mercedes-Benz.  The operator of the vehicle, Michael H. Nelson, age 38, of Long Beach, NY, was found to be intoxicated by alcohol.  While being taken into custody, Mr. Nelson struck a trooper in the face, with his head, several times in addition to striking the trooper's body.  Nelson's wife, Alexandra J. Nelson, age 29, also of Long Beach, NY, exited the vehicle and attempted to obstruct the arrest of her husband.  She was taken into custody as well.  The couple was transported to the East Meadow Barracks for processing.  While at the station, Mr. Nelson continued to act belligerent and refused to cooperate with the chemical tests.  Mr. Nelson was ultimately charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Assault 2nd (D Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (A Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (A Misdemeanor) and Harassment 2nd (Violation).  Also at the station, Mrs. Nelson remained combative.  In addition to spitting at the troopers, she also threw her shoes and soiled underwear at them.  Mrs. Nelson was charged with Attempted Assault 2nd (E Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (A Misdemeanor), Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd (A Misdemeanor) and Disorderly Conduct (Violation).  The Nelsons were transported to Nassau County Detention to await arraignment at the First District Court.
