Two arrested after fleeing from police

On February 6, 2019 State Police in Latham arrested 24-year-old Jovino Rivera, of Bronx, NY, for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree, and Resisting Arrest. Also arrested was Estrella Chavez, 23, of Waterford, NY, charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on February 6th, 2019 Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle speeding southbound on Interstate 87 in the town of Colonie. The vehicle operator, later identified at Jovino Rivera, failed to comply with the Troopers attempts to pull him over and fled. Troopers pursued the vehicle until it lost control and struck a mile post marker, coming to rest in the grassy shoulder of the roadway. Rivera exited the vehicle and ran to avoid arrest, Troopers gave chase and he was subsequently taken into custody. Rivera is charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree, and Resisting Arrest.
During an interview with the Rivera’s passenger Estrella Chavez, the Trooper detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle and passenger found that Chavez was in possession of a quantity of concentrated THC oil. She was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree.
Both subjects were arraigned in Colonie Town Court. Chavez was released on her own recognizance, Rivera was released into the custody of Albany County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. Rivera is due back in court on February 11, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
