Motor Vehicle Collision With Serious Injury

On May 4, 2019, at approximately 8:52 pm, troopers responded to a two-car motor vehicle collision on the westbound Southern State Parkway at Exit 41N, in the town of Islip, Suffolk County. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Honda Accord with two occupants and a 2011 Toyota Prius also with two occupants, collided in the right lane while both vehicles were traveling westbound on the Southern State Parkway. The collision caused the Honda to overturn and slide on its roof before coming to a stop in the left lane. The Toyota made a controlled stop on the right shoulder of the parkway. The operator of the Honda, George C. Farley, age 63, of Centerport, NY, was transported to Southside Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and displayed signs of alcohol impairment. His passenger, Robert Dobbins, age 68, of West Babylon, NY, was severely injured and transported to Southside Hospital where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the Toyota was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was released. His passenger did not sustain any injuries and was released from the scene.
Mr. Farley was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and is awaiting arraignment at Suffolk County First District Court.
