PRESS RELEASE

New York State Police at Ithaca located a missing hiker early this morning, close to 12 hours after the intial 911 call was made.

The hiker identified herself as Yi Sun, age 58 of Westfield, NJ.  Sun called 911 around 12:30 p.m., seeking assistance and was unable to identify where she was.  She told 911 dispatchers that she was in a muddy area near a creek and could see power lines.  She believed that she entered a trail off Sandbank Road in the town of Ithaca.

Shortly after midnight, troopers on a roving patrol located Sun near the area of Routes 34/96 north of Decker Road.  She was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment and her family was contacted.

New York State Police, New York State Park Police, DEC Forest Rangers, Ithaca Fire Department, Tompkins County Search and Rescue and other agencies assisted in the lengthy search.
