Carthage Couple arrested on fraud charges

PRESS RELEASE

State Police announce the arrest of Caitlyn R. Lockwood, age 29 and Taylor J. Ballou, age 28, following a two-month investigation into the fraudulent use of several credit and gift cards totaling over $3,700.
 
On April 17, 2019, State Police were contacted by the complainant who stated that she accidently left her purse at Walmart on April 16th and discovered numerous fraudulent transactions on her credit cards. 
 
On June 20, 2019, Investigators charged Caitlyn R. Lockwood, age 29 from 24639 County Route 42 Carthage, NY with the following:
  • (3 counts) Identity Theft 2nd degree, a class “E” felony
  • (3 counts) Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, a class “E” felony
  • (4 counts) Petit Larceny, a class “A” misdemeanor
 
Taylor J. Ballou, age 28, from 22639 County Route 42 Carthage, NY was charged with the following:
  • (2 counts) Identity Theft 1st degree, a class “D” felony
  • (1 count) Identity Theft 2nd degree, a class “E” felony
  • (2 counts) Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree, a class “D” felony
  • (3 counts) Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, a class “E” felony
  • (2 counts) Petit Larceny, a class “A” misdemeanor
 
Lockwood and Ballou were arraigned in the town of LeRay court and remanded to the Jefferson County Public Safety Building on $5,000 cash/ $10,000 bond.
