Driving Under the Influence Arrests

In separate incidences this 4th of July weekend, New York State Police arrested five individuals for driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  
 
On Wednesday July 3rd, New York State Police received a complaint of an erratic gray Honda involved in a property damage accident on Wygant Rd in the Town of Horseheads. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, Denise Asprea, age 50 of Horseheads, Asprea had stated that she had been at Target. Asprea was having trouble standing up without support and told troopers that she had a few drinks. Asprea was unable to complete roadside sobriety tests and placed under arrest for DWI. A roadside breath test found Asprea to have a BAC of .27 %. Asprea is to return to the Town of Horseheads count on a later date.

New York State Police conducted a routine traffic stop on Friday July 5th  in the Town of Erwin on I-99. The operator of the vehicle had trouble removing his license from his wallet and troopers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Scott Thomas, age 54 of Corning, told troopers he had been smoking marijuana and gave his smoking device to troopers. Troopers also found marijuana with the passenger in the vehicle as well as open containers of alcoholic beverages. The occupants of the vehicle were arrested for possession of illegal drugs and the vehicle was towed.

During routine patrol on Saturday July 6th, troopers observed a gray Honda driving the wrong way in the Ciy of Elmira. The driver of the vehicle, Carey Wood, age 45 of Elmira, showed several signs of impairment and told troopers that she had taken illegal drugs. Wood was arrested for Driving while Ability impaired by drugs. The passenger of the vehicle, Charles Benjamin, age 44 also of Elmira, was arrested for giving a false name to troopers and sent to the Chemung County jail after it was also found he was violating his parole. Wood was issued tickets for  traffic violations and released to a sober third party. Wood is due to return to the Elmira City court at a later date.  

A speeding vehicle was stopped on Interstate 86 in the Town of Campbell by New York State Police on Sunday evening July 7th. The driver, Stas Holodny, age 42 of Brooklyn, was found to have a strong odor of marijuana on his breath and from the vehicle.  After evaluation, Holodny was arrested for Operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs as well as possession of drugs and vehicle and traffic violations. His vehicle was towed from the scene.


The driver of a vehicle on SR 21 in the Town of Wayland was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs on Monday July 8th , in the early morning hours. The driver, Dennis Rollinger, age 32 of Erie, PA, told troopers that he had smoked marijuana just an hour earlier. Rollinger was also found to be in possession of a handgun. Rollinger is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Shelby Neamon, age 23 of Jamestown, a passenger in the vehicle was found to be in possession of Methamphetamine and was also arrested and is set to return to the Town of Wayland court at a later date.
