DWI stop leads to Felony Drug Charge

Brunswick Troopers arrested a Troy man this week on multiple drug charges. Troopers encountered John J Foster, 40, during a traffic stop on State Route 40 in Brunswick. While interviewing Foster, an investigation revealed that Foster was intoxicated. He was placed under arrest for DWI. Foster was also found to be in possession of 2 plastic bags containing 11.5 grams of a white and pink powder substance later determined to be ecstasy (MDMA), and a glass vial containing concentrated cannabis. Foster was processed at SP Brunswick, where he refused any breath or blood testing. Foster was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd degree, a Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, a Misdemeanor. He was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 2nd degree and Felony DWI, due to a previous DWI conviction. Foster was arraigned in the Town of Brunswick Court by the Honorable Town Justice Terrance Buchanan, and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail in lieu of bail. He is due to appear in Brunswick Court at a later date.
