On July 9, 2019 State Police in Queensbury arrested 20-year-old Antoine Benoit and 25-year-old Manuel S. Torres, both of Saint- Hyacinthe Quebec. Each was charged with Criminal Possession of Marihuana 1st degree and Conspiracy 4th degree.
Shortly after noon on Tuesday, State Police stopped a speeding minivan headed southbound on Interstate 87 in Queensbury. When a Trooper interviewed the driver, Manuel Torres, they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed that Torres was in possession 179 pounds of marijuana, which was located in a number of duffle bags in the cargo area.
A second vehicle had been following Torres too closely and was also stopped. It was discovered that the operator, Antoine Benoit, had rented both vehicles. Both men were placed in custody and transported to SP Queensbury for processing.
Both men were arraigned in Queensbury Town Court and remanded to Warren County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash or $15,000 bail.
